Tenjinyama Park Sakura - Part 2

Late blooms for cherry blossom trees in Chiba

When it comes to cherry blossoms, being a "late-bloomer" can be a good thing. With many types of "sakura" (cherry blossom) trees, Tenjinyama Park in Sosa City, Chiba, is a hidden gem for sakura viewing.

The park is covered with the common type of cherry blossom, the five-petaled "somei yoshino." This type is often the one predicted to bloom by forecasts in Japan. However, other types bloom later allowing you to enjoy the sakura season even longer.

The late-bloomers are called "yezakura," which means multi-layered cherry blossom. These definitely have more than five petals and come in different varieties and colors ranging from delicate white to dark pink. Tenjiyama Park has both types of cherry blossoms, making it a lovely destination all throughout the cherry blossom season in spring. Blossoms can usually be seen for almost an entire month in April. Come out to the coast of Chiba for cherry blossom season!
