Funatsu Jinja, a venerable shrine in Sabae, Fukui, is over 1500 years old. Like many shrines, it is located in the middle of a grove of beautiful trees, some of which are very tall, and also old. This shrine faces Mt. Oo. When a shrine has a long approach, like this one does, there is real drama to your walk as you get closer and closer to the main building of worship. The main gate, or torii, is quite large and majestic.
