Today in Japan there are a lot of castle ruins. Some people might wonder, why would you even go to see ruins if the actual castle is gone? Well, because not everything is gone. Yatsushiro Castle may have lost its keep and most of its structures, but the walls and moat remain. In the water you can see many koi (carp) and turtles swimming. Inside is almost like a Japanese garden. You can enjoy the trees, flowers, and shrubbery along the paths as you walk around the ruins. The ruins are in the center of the city, not far from the station and the Yatsushiro Grand Hotel.
