Cherry Trees at Daikyuan Teahouse

Weeping cherry tree seen through sliding screens

On the 12th of April 2014 I visited Taizo-in, which is one of the temples of Myoshin-ji Temple Complex in Kyoto, and is famous for its beautiful weeping cherry tree.

The name of Taizo-in immediately brings to mind the pink cascading cherry tree in the Garden of Yin and Yang. However, the weeping cherry tree seen through the snow-viewing sliding screens at the teahouse Daikyuan is also wonderful! It is difficult to describe the magnificence of the garden when viewed while relaxing with a cup of green tea in the teahouse.

Taizo-in provides various special programs for tourists such as Zazen experience, Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, calligraphy, etc. and many foreigners participate in them (reservation needed, please contact Taizo-in).
