If you're the kind of person who thinks every food is enhanced when it's served over rice, the Donburi Grand Prix is something you shouldn't miss.
Now in its 16th year, the event will offer numerous rice bowls piled high with toppings for visitors to try, including a crab donburi from the Sapporo Crab House (1188 yen), a meat donburi from Kyoto Meat Shop Hiroshi (1080 yen), and a tuna donburi from Nakayoshi (1080 yen).
After eating, attendees can then cast their votes about which donburi they enjoyed the most -- if you were curious, last year's winner was Kyoto Meat Shop Hiroshi.
Daimaru Kyoto is located just a minute on foot from Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto line (directly accessible underground) or a 2 minute walk from Shijo Station on the Karasuma subway line (directly accessible underground).
For those who opt to drive, on-site parking is available and is charged at a rate of 600 yen for the first hour, and then 300 yen for every 30 minutes thereafter. Those who make purchases over 5000 yen can receive 2 hours free parking - bring your parking ticket to the first floor information desk to be validated.
