The Ohatsu Tenjin Shrine (also known as Tsuyunoten) is one of the most popular shrines in Osaka. Partly due to its location, and partly due to the theme and tragic backstory of the shrine, you’re likely to find it busy at any time of day or night.
The story of a romantic double-suicide can be found on the walls as you enter. This didn’t deter any of the tipsy couples I witnessed during my visit, asking for blessings on their relationship (or just looking for a place to sit down). A few rowdy night time visitors aside, this really is a beautiful and interesting shrine right in the middle of Osaka’s bustling nightlife.
