For a laid-back afternoon activity, we put on our hiking boots, ascended the inclined cemented roads of Mt. Kanuki and in about 20 minutes, we reached the first stop-over where we grabbed some food and drinks from the convenient store. We unfurled our picnic mats on the grassy spacious area as we captured the captivating bird’s eye view of the city with the Southern Alps and Mt. Fuji on the background in our camera lenses. The 193-meter Mt. Kaniki is a famous casual and sporty hiking spot in the southeastern part of Numazu City in Shizuoka Prefecture. It’s also abundant in wildlife and thus, a perfect place for bird-watching.
