Mt. Maruyama (1689m) is located in the northeastern part of the Nikko mountain range. The course is a pleasant 2.5-hour roundtrip hike from Kirifuri-kogen Bus stop. The first 40 minutes is a little bit tough with a rough slope and slippery mud. But after that, you can enjoy a nice view from the top of the mountain and the easy flat fields of Yappei-ga-hara. Yappei-ga-hara is covered with short striped bamboo leaves, which are at about the height of your waist. So be careful not to lose your way during the last 50 minutes in this field.
