Kimono are an important part of Japanese culture, and the upcoming Kimono Expo in Tokyo allows visitors to experience the splendor of these traditional garments in a variety of unique ways.
The event will include talks about kimono-related topics from experts in the industry, including the likes of Niigata's Echigo Dyeing Studio and Ito Sachi, one of Japan's leading fabric manufacturers. There will also be a number of hands-on workshops for attendees to participate in, such as Bingata fabric dyeing (a dyeing technique that originated in Okinawa) and obi sash making.
For those not based in the Tokyo area, a sister event will be held in Osaka from October 26th until October 31st at the Hankyu Grand Building (26 F).
Getting there
The Kimono Expo takes place at the Ginza Trading Building, which is located just a minute on foot from Ginza Itchome Station (Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line).
