Shinpuku-ji Temple in Yoga

Find peace in a suburb of Tokyo

If you're in the Tokyo suburb of Yoga, possibly to visit Setagaya Art Museum, then it's nice to wander round the compact grid of streets close to the station. As well as a nice range of shops and cafes, there are a couple of interesting temples, Shinpuku-ji being one of them.

As well as its graveyard, halls, Buddhist statues and lanterns, the main point of interest for me was the carvings under the eaves of some of the buildings. There are flying airborne guardian lions and dragons, also cute birds and flowers, all beautifully detailed.
