5 Halloween High Teas to Enjoy This Autumn

Classy high tea events with a little added spook factor!

With autumn in our midst, many of us begin to dream of cooler temperatures, seasonal eats, and fun events on the calendar -- including Halloween! There are a number of different ways to celebrate the spooky season in Japan, and treating yourself to a themed high tea event is just one of them. These five options each run until October 31st and serve up a range of goodies that look too cute to eat...almost!

Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba's Halloween Black Afternoon Tea Set

October 1st (Friday) - October 31st (Sunday)

The Halloween Afternoon Tea event at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba will take on a black theme, and there are a variety of inventive dishes on the line up. From a black sesame roll cake to squid ink pasta, a burger with a black bun and plenty more, this event is bound to be a little slice of monochromatic magic. October 1st (Friday) - October 31st (Sunday)

¥ 5,100 per head

The Halloween Afternoon Tea event at the Westin Miyako Kyoto is filled with monster and jack-o'-lantern motifs in the dishes on offer. They also incorporate numerous flavors of the season, including pumpkin and purple sweet potato. If you'd prefer to grab something to go instead, the hotel is also offering takeout Halloween sweets boxes -- just be sure to make a reservation at least two days in advance.

Sheraton Miyako Hotel Osaka's Halloween Castle Afternoon Tea

September 21st (Tuesday) - October 31st (Sunday)

¥ 5,000 per head

The team at the Sheraton Miyako Osaka put on their thinking caps to devise a Halloween castle-themed afternoon tea. The bottom plate is designed to be a garden leading to the Halloween castle, the middle plate is the sleeping monsters floor, and the top tier is the monster aristocrats party, and each food item themed accordingly. Nagoya Tokyu Hotel's Halloween Afternoon Tea Set

September 1st (Wednesday) - October 31st (Sunday)

¥ 3,600 per head

Nagoya doesn't miss out on the seasonal fun either, and the reasonably-priced event at the Nagoya Tokyu Hotel runs right through from the start of September until the end of October. Some of the menu offerings for this afternoon tea include an apple mousse, pumpkin-flavored Mont Blancs, and bamboo charcoal cream puffs, plus scones in both plain and pumpkin choc-chip varieties. Conrad Tokyo's Halloween Afternoon Tea

September 1st (Wednesday) - October 31st (Sunday)

¥ 6,500 per head

The luxe Conrad Tokyo puts on a Halloween Afternoon Tea event each year, and the 2021 iteration of it is ultra-chic whilst still being on theme. There is a specific focus on Japanese flavors in the dishes on offer, with a Mont Blanc using chestnuts from Ehime Prefecture, a jelly using raspberries and pears from Yamagata, and a Kagoshima black tea and orange mousse.
