In all seasons, one can enjoy the amazing coastline in Fukui's Wakasa Bay with a trip to Shiroyama Park. Hundreds of years ago, a castle once stood there. Today, however, the park is covered in cherry trees and pines, and one can visit the ancient foundation of the castle (it has long since gone). The views from the top of the hill at the far end of the park are nothing short of spectacular, and make for a great romantic spot during the evening or early morning.

Views from Wakasa's Shiroyama Park
Amazing views of the coast from a park on a penninsula

The coastline is quite jagged once past the idyllic beach of Wakasa Bay
The area is very rural, making evenings quiet and peaceful
This quiet inlet is known locally as an area for children to learn to swim
A small hiking trail to the north leads directly up to the shoreline
There are many islands in the bay
The shoreline is quite dramatic, and in the winter it often snows
