Chikugo River Fireworks Festival 2024

A summer event with over 350 years of history

Venue: Chikugo Riverbed, Kurume City When: Late Aug 2024

With origins dating back to the year 1650, the Chiguko River Fireworks Festival is a world-class event billed as the largest fireworks display in western Japan. Approximately 15,000 fireworks will be launched during the 70-minute long show, which is set to light up the summer night sky with color.

Along with the incredible fireworks display to enjoy, the event will also include 350 stalls lining the river.

Admission to the event itself is free of charge, but do bring yen if you plan on purchasing food or drink. Please note the running time for the fireworks is from 7.40pm until 8.50pm.

Getting there

The event venue is located approximately 10 minutes on foot from Kurume Station, which is served by the JR Kagoshima Main Line. There are five separate viewing areas along the riverbank.

As the festival area is expected to be congested, visitors are advised to utilize public transport wherever possible.
