Ohori Park encloses a spacious lake surrounded by a belt of trees. Running through the lake is an island that runs from one end to the other. This makes a great place for a picnic. With a lot of greenery, there are plenty of birds and other animals. Surrounding the lake is a pathway separated into three lanes for joggers, cyclists and for people who are just walking. The lake was constructed as an extension of the moat system of nearby Fukuoka Castle. The park is set in a great area where you can also visit the castle ruins, Fukuoka Art Museum and Gokoku Shrine.

There were many turtles in the water that day. This one was enaging in some light swimming near the surface of the water. (Photo: Michelle Madden)
