Kodaira City - Parks & Gardens

The natural spaces of Tokyo's Tama region

Overview

Walk past almost every corner in Kodaira City and you are likely to come across tiny local play spaces for children. But if you sneak a peek past these spots - and the city's famous open air museum - and you soon discover that there are actually some nice parks and gardens here that can pique the interest. Here is an introduction to the these parks and gardens in Kodaira and how to reach them.

Ajisai Park

A lovely little local space with convenient access, Ajisai Park really comes into its own from summer onwards when the park's hydrangeas decide to bloom. Easily drawing in the locals, as well as a few visitors, the park was originally established to promote the beauty of this flowering plant. The park continues to provide delight with its colours definitely worth taking the time to appreciate.

Picnicking is common here, particularly during spring and autumn when the blooming trees provide their traditional backdrop of beauty.

Tokyo Medicinal Plants Garden

Considered by some to be a hidden gem of the city, the Tokyo Medicinal Pants Garden is a botanical garden that fascinatingly also features poisonous plants. Organised according to themes, visitors will find, along with a huge variety of plants, a small indoor forest and greenhouse. Free admission to the garden only makes it easier to visit.

An ajisai park, a kid-friendly park, and a medicinal plant park?! A bit of everything in this neck of the woods, it seems!
