Hokkaido is renowned for its beauty in nature, and its apparent difference from the rest of the country. Nestled close to Russia, some of the best views overlook the two islands just off the freely accessible northernmost part of Japan: Rebun and Rishiri Islands.
Though the islands are beautiful in their own right upon visiting, the views of the sun setting over Rebun Island, and the resulting view of Mt. Rishiri was simply breathtaking. The views from the ferry returning to Wakkanai in Hokkaido provided some of the most stunning and untouched golden rays to compliment nature's achievements. Just sitting and watching the sunset provides the ultimate calm as it hypnotises you away from any worries that you may have. Mt. Rishiri with its blanket of snow glistened in the sun as it dipped over Rebun Island.
Hokkaido provides some of the most stunning views of nature unseen in the rest of Japan, perhaps due to its close proximity to Russia and its resulting climate. If you have not been to visit yet, then ensure that Hokkaido is eventually ticked off your prefectural bucket list.
