Cape Nagasakibana isn't the southernmost point in all of Kyushu but it is at the tip of the Satsuma Peninsula. Offering views of the rocky coast and clear sightings (on most days) of Kagoshima's iconic Mt Kaimon, it's a contemplative location. The brightly-colored Ryugu Shrine, which recounts the tale of a man taken under the sea by a turtle and returned 300 years later, stands a few meters from the water's edge.

Cape Nagasakibana
The southernmost point of the Satsuma Peninsula

A view of the lighthouse on Cape Nagasakibana through the torii gate of Ryugu Shrine

The perfect cone of Mt Kaimon sits just off to the west of the cape

The Ryugu shrine was rebuilt in 2011, hence the rather well-kept and new-looking buildings

The shrines colors are a stark contrast to the colors of the sea and sky

A close-up on the carpentry of the shrine

The coast here is rocky but beautiful

For a winter day, we were quite lucky with the weather. We even managed to summit Kaimon-dake as well!

Like you mentioned, the red of the shrine and blue of the sea is a nice contrast. You also had some good luck with the weather!
