In Kaminagaya in the suburbs of Yokohama, the locals' spiritual needs are met by this temple and neighbouring shinto shrine Nagaya-tenmangu. Compact but attractive, Teisho-in has a peaceful atmosphere, and is home to an attractive main hall with interesting carved lions and fish on the beams under the eaves. The grounds are neatly tended, and populated by a range of statues: a pilgrim waiting for alms, a cute little girl by the path, a selection of Buddhist deities.
