Yokosuka Curry Festival

An event dedicated to this delicious comfort food

Venue: Mikasa Park, Yokosuka When: Late May 2024

If you're a fan of anything curry related, the Yokosuka Curry Festival is an event you simply can't miss. This isn't just your standard curry over rice event, either – although there's plenty of that available. You'll also find currypan (curry-filled, deep-fried bread), curry dogs, curry yakisoba (fried noodles), and plenty more.

Yokosuka is a port city home to various maritime operations, and curry has been a staple dish on Japanese navy ships for some time - so it's quite fitting for an event of this nature to be held in this part of Japan.

Getting there

The Yokosuka Curry Festival takes place at Mikasa Park, which is located around 15 minutes on foot from from Yokosuka Chuo Station on the Keikyu Main Line.

For those who opt to drive, on-site parking is available for up to 45 vehicles. It's charged at¥ 410 yen for the first hour, ¥210 for each additional 30 minutes up to two hours, and ¥100 per hour after that.

I have heard of ramen and gyoza festivals. It makes sense that a curry one would appear. I may pass on the curry dogs and curry yakisoba though.

I think standard curry rice would still be my top pick, too, but I admire the creativity!
Wish I could go....

It's the first time they're holding the festival in the last couple of years...so hopefully that's an encouraging sign that things are kind of returning to normal! Borders next, I hope!

Yokosuka regulation naval curry is pretty good.
