A raised bank between two rivers near Keihan Yawata Station is the best place I have been to see cherry blossom so far. I know I think that because everything about that day was perfect - the weather, the company, the picnic food, and the beautiful, beautiful cherry blossom at the peak of loveliness. Even if you are not as lucky as me, the 1.4 km double row of cherry trees planted along top of the bank is a wonderful sight.

Sewari Zutsumi Cherry Blossoms
Pink petals on a warm spring breeze

By Cathy Cawood

A warm breeze wafting petals across the blue sky

Sightseers stroll beneath a canopy of blossom

Reading on the grass under the trees

A path beneath two rows of cherry trees

Stone walls and steps enhance the landscape

A kite-hawk soars high above the blossom

Mochi dango (rice cake) in spring colors

It's a popular spot for O-hanami

A truly idyllic setting

Blossom laden branches against a glorious blue sky

A path runs beside the river

A couple sit on the grass beside the path

Kansai ben, I noticed your play on words! Is it Kansai Benjamin or Kansai ben the dialect? It is near Keihan Yawata Station. Hope to get some Kyoto dialect from you this Spring time!

Lovely article. Which station is the closest, and is it easy to find?
Thanks.
