If you're staying on Zamami-jima in Okinawa's Kerama island chain, you might hop on a ferry over to these two smaller islands. Connected to each other by a bridge, Aka and Geruma are even more tranquil than Zamami, with low houses on quiet, narrow lanes, the combined population less than 400.
Geruma is the smaller, with one lookout point, and Takara's House, a historical village residence; on Aka you can enjoy two long beaches with beautiful clear water, captivating views from more lookouts and, if you're lucky, you'll catch sight of some wild Kerama deer.
