Japanese Doll Artists in Tokyo

Unique artwork at Maruzen Gallery

In the spring of 2012, I was invited to participate in the “World Ningyo Exhibition” that took place in the Maruzen Gallery, next to Tokyo Station. I was very thrilled with that invitation. It’s always interesting to see the different looks and works of art of materials. The dolls made by Japanese artists were really different by themes, images, colors and even concepts.

The most distinguished feature of the works by Japanese artists is the mood of the doll. The organizer of the exhibition explained to me that Japanese who treasure arts prefer to showcase a decadent mood rather than a positive one. This is very different from Russian mentality. But, I liked most of the works and was inspired by the images.

Doll artists in Japan have no certain place where they exhibit their art. Few times a year, Maruzen Gallery hosts various doll exhibitions and Fantanima.

Maruzen Gallery is located on the 4th floor of the Maruzen Marunouchi Bookstore in the OAZO Building, which is easily accessible from JR Tokyo Station, from the North Marunouchi exit.
