Hikawa Jinja is Omiya's main shrine and is only a ten-minute walk from Kita-Omiya, and about a twenty-minute walk from Omiya Station. Claiming to be more than 2000 years old, this Shinto shrine boasts a two-kilometer long sando, the road leading to the shrine, that is filled to the brim with stalls and people during its yearly festival. On a regular day, Hikawa shrine is a relaxing place to enjoy Japanese religion and architecture as well as the lone line of greenery leading up to the main gate. Around the shrine are various attractions such as a small museum with a bamboo garden, a zoo, and a Japanese garden.
