If you're visiting the delightful small town of Izu-Taga close to Atami, possibly for its beach or for the Ikeda Masudo Art Museum, then you'll find that there's also a surprising number of attractive shrines and temples. Not far from the station, Taga-jinja is the town's main shrine, and is a pleasant spot to poke around: there's a peaceful atmosphere, several interesting statues and carvings, and austere but handsome worship halls and side shrines.
