Otodome Falls is one of two great waterfalls within walking distance of each other on the Shiba River in Fujinomiya (the other one is Shiraito Falls). Otodome Falls roars powerfully over a cliff face and falls 25 meters into the pool below. It is one of the most popular sightseeing attractions in Shizuoka, and ranks as on of Japan's '100 Greatest Waterfalls'. If you go early in the morning you can avoid the crowds. The best time of year to visit is probably autumn, but I went there in summer. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and an information center on the main trail to view the waterfall.

One of Japan's 100 greatest waterfalls

Distant view of Otodome Waterfall
A large tree along the trail bears a sign for the waterfall
The flow looks very powerful indeed
The falls are located on The Shiba River in Fujinomiya
There didn't seem to be any way to approach the pool at the bottom of the waterfall
There are cafes and souvenir shops nearby
Sake barrels with pictures of Mount Fuji outside the shops
Stall selling locally grown peaches, so delicious in July and August
These cooling drinks outside the souvenir shops have their own waterfall!

Cathy, please can you tell if you know, of course, how long it takes to get to Shitaito Falls from Fujinomiya station?
When I went there we drove, but the falls are 12 kilometers from Fujinomiya Station, so you&ll probably want to take a taxi or a bus or a taxi. There is a bus from the station - information here: http://www.shizuokabus.co.jp/noriai-bus_fujinomiya/#fujinomiya
I don&t know how long it takes, sorry.

Thank you very much, Cathy! I bet 12 km is quite close.
