A few years back, walking in the by-lanes of Asakusa, I saw customers lining up at a shop called Asakusa Silk Pudding and I decided to try it. It was a discovery by chance and since then I have never forgotten to have one whenever I visit the area.

The shop is in a lane parallel to the Kaminarimon Gate and has just a few seats outside the shop to enjoy the pudding. Late afternoon is best, as you probably won't have to queue up.

The original and first pudding is now renamed Asakusa Classic and still retains the original taste.

The shop has been introduced on many a television shows, and quite a few celebrities have been to this shop; as displayed in the photographs in front of the shop.

My favorite pudding is the Asakusa Premium Silk, which is served in a porcelain jar. It is slightly costly at 500 yen, but worth the experience!

The Asakusa Silk Pudding shop is managed by Testa Rossa Cafe, which specializes in all kinds of desserts, not just pudding. The Testa Rossa Cafe (2-6-1 Komagata, Taito-ku) is located just a short walk from the Silk Pudding shop.

Asakusa Silk Pudding is a popular pudding outlet in Asakusa, a small establishment in the adjacent lane to the Kaminarimon. It is particularly well known to locals and I discovered it while having a stroll around the area. Do stop by and try the various puddings on the menu, many tourists try the Green Tea Pudding, although I would also recommend the Premium Silk one. In Japan, you can even order it online (link in Japanese); however, I think enjoying it at Asakusa is an altogether different experience.
