Chofu City - Parks & Gardens

The natural spaces of Tokyo's Tama region

Overview

An easy day trip out of central Tokyo, Tama region's Chofu City is home to much in the way of history and traditional foods. However it is the city's gardens that truly dominate the sightseeing scene. World class botanical gardens make the trip to the city well worth any effort with thousands of visitors arriving to take in the beautiful floral sights. Here is an introduction to some of the parks and gardens of Chofu and how to reach them.

Jindai Botanical Gardens

Over one hundred thousand trees makes the world class Jindai Botanical Gardens not only the city's number one garden but also one of Japan's most impressive. At JPY500, this sprawling space filled with flower zones and trails to visit them is well worth the visit while its ponds and old castle ruins only add to the appeal.

Nogawa Park

With its namesake river running along its eastern boundary, Nogawa Park is a green space home to over eight thousand trees including the ever-lovely cherry blossom. Paddling around the park's natural spring makes it a popular place come summer while the wooden play equipment for the kids lends works perfectly with the open nature surrounding it.

Aquatic Botanical Gardens

Almost a cheat here with the Jindai Aquatic Botanical Gardens being connected with its more famous sibling up the road, but the gardens are free and the focus is on water flora. The garden's raised wooden walking trail loops from one end of the garden to the other making it a lovely place to stroll.

Yes! So fluffy! I've actually seen it used a lot for home decor, where people dry it out. A nice aesthetic!

I always visit botanical gardens and green houses. Probably because here we don't have great variety of trees and flowers.

We live in a severe climate, so it's understandable! :) Now it's winter and snow covers all till middle April. :(
