Hokuryu Sunflower Festival 2025

Mind-blowing beauty, with 2 million sunflowers in bloom

Venue
Hokuryu Sunflower Village
When
Late Jul - Late Aug 2025

The summer months in Japan see a number of sunflower festivals pop up on the calendar, and one of the best is Hokkaido's Hokuryu Sunflower Festival. The event has been running since 1987, and showcases the beauty of a staggering 2 million sunflowers covering a space of 23 hectares.

Along with the overwhelming number of sunflowers to appreciate, the event also has two sunflower mazes, various sunflower themed foods such as sunflower soft-serve ice cream, bicycles for rent, and more.

Admission to the event itself is free, but there is a charge if you want to take part in the sunflower mazes or rent a bike.

Getting there

The Hokuryu Sunflower Festival is located around a two hour drive from the Sapporo New Chitose Airport area, or approximately 90 minutes from Asahikawa Airport. Free on-site parking is available for up to 500 vehicles.

For those using public transport, buses are available to the festival area from the JR Fukagawa Station.

hi, can anyone share how to get to the sunflower village via public transport from Sapporo?

Hello! There are several limited express trains you can take from Sapporo Station to Fukagawa Station, including the limited express Lilac, limited express Kamui, and limited express Okhotsk. The travel time is just a little over an hour, and then taxi or bus from the station to the venue. Hope that helps!
