Miyako Pacific Cod Festival

An opportunity to try this fish in various ways

Venue: Miyako City Fish Market When: Sunday - Jan 23rd 2022

White, flaky codfish is one of the world's most popular fishes to eat, thanks to its mild flavor and versatility in a range of dishes. The Miyako Pacific Codfish Festival celebrates this, and the Miyako City Fish Market will be filled with a variety of gourmet food stalls selling cod-inspired dishes such as cod soup.

Up until the end of January, 26 restaurants in Miyako City, Yamada Town, and Iwaizumi Town will also be serving up meals with cod as the primary ingredient, including the likes of crispy battered fish and chips and fried codfish curry. The full list of restaurants participating in this additional event can be found here (in Japanese).

Oh my cod! The Sanriku coast really does have the best seafood in Japan. Everyone says theirs is the best, but you can taste the difference when its fresh!
