The Angel Road is found near the Tonosho port of Shodoshima Island in the Seto Inland Sea. It is a small strip that connects the mainland to three small islands just off the shoreline, and only revealed during low tide twice a day. Legend has it that walking the Angel Road hand in hand with your significant other is supposed to bless that relationship. It could just be good tourism marketing, but it hasn't stopped couples from leaving their love declarations hanging all around the island. It is quite a beautiful scenic spot nonetheless whether you choose to walk the road alone, in a group, or with a partner. Head up to the lookout point overlooking the Angel Road called Yakusoku no Oka, or the Hill of Promise.

Walk the Angel Road of Shodoshima
This island pathway only appears during low tide

The Angel Road only appears at low tide which happens twice a day

Love Declarations can be found all over the island

I didn't walk to the other islands - this was taken from the first island.

Low tide is when the sand bar that connects the mainland (left) to the islands (right) is revealed

The shoreline is mostly mossy rocks and beautiful calm sea

There is a lookout point where you can look out at the islands

Climbing up to the lookout point requires some stair climbing but it is not very high.

The view of the islands connected to Shodoshima by the Angel Road during low tide from the lookout point.

There is a bell on top of the lookout point

Couples can hang their love declarations here
