Temple twenty five in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is also known as the Temple of the Illuminating Seaport. The main deity is called Kajitori Jizo (the Helmsman Jizo). Local fishermen usually call the temple Tsudera (Port Temple), and believe that those who worship here will be protected out on the water. Legend has it that Lord Yamanouchi of Tosa Castle was saved from shipwreck because of his devotion to Jizo. During a severe storm Jizo took the helm of his floundering ship and steered him to safety. Unfortunately, at the time of visiting, the Main Hall was closed for construction. To get there, catch a Kan-noura bound bus from Nahari station and get off at Muroto bus stop. From there it’s about a 10 minute walk.
