Chishaku-in is a temple with a very complicated religious and political history behind it. But the beauty of its inner gardens, refined paintings, and sophisticated wooden corridors around the halls are far from the fierce power struggles that have marred its history. Sitting at the edge of the open veranda in Shoin Hall, a pond is just at your feet. A small hill covered with well-trimmed azaleas is right before your eyes. Today, Chishaku-in has finally found peaceful and space to call their own after a history of long wanderings.
