Kanagawa-born Yuji Kanamaru (1978 -) is a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, and his unique creative style incorporates materials like burlap and newspaper on the surface of his paintings. A special exhibition at Daimaru Kyoto will explore around 40 of Kanamaru's eccentric and often animal-focused works, with a number of them available for purchase at the event.
Part of the inspiration behind Kanamaru's works is from his childhood experiences – he spent part of his formative years in South America.
