Few passengers like waiting around for long periods without distraction during an airport transit. Therefore, passengers transiting at Narita International Airport will be pleased to discover Japan thanks to the “Narita Transit Program”, launched in March 2015. The program stands to open up the diverse cultural heritage of Narita to those just a short distance away.
Passengers only need to apply for these free tours at the reception desk at the Arrivals lobby in Terminal 1 and 2, and advanced reservations are also possible.
Through the support of volunteer tour guides, passengers can escape the confines of the airport transit area to visit great places like Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, founded more than 1000 years ago. If they want to go shopping near the airport, passengers can also choose self-guided tours.
The hope is to allow these temporary visitors a chance to experience the omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) culture and, through this opportunity, encourage them to return one day for a longer stay.
