Girls' Day is a celebration that falls on March 3rd each year, and you'll often see hina dolls displayed across the country around this period. They symbolize the wish for the health, happiness, and prosperity of young girls, and one place you can appreciate them is Niigata's Murakami City.
Their annual Murakami Machiya Doll Tour involves these traditional dolls on display at equally historic venues–machiya are traditional wooden townhouses, adding an extra level of appeal to the event. There will also be hina dolls showcased at venues like the Murakami Museum of History and Culture and the Wakabayashi Family Residence.
There is a small admission fee of 300 JPY for adults and 150 yen for elementary, junior high and high school students to take part.
