A special event taking place at the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art looks at the works of Niigata-born Shigeko Kubota (1937 - 2015), a visual artist who was known predominantly for her video sculpture works. Regarded as a pioneer of this art form, this event will be the first large-scale exhibition of her works since her passing, with video sculptures, sketches, archive materials, and more on display.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 1000 yen.

Getting there

By Public Transport:

From the JR Nagaoka Station (served by the Shinetsu Line, Joetsu Line, and the Joetsu Shinkansen), take the Ote Exit and head to the central loop line bus (platform 8). Get off at the Kenritsu Kindai Bijutsukan stop, which is approximately a 15 minute trip. Alternatively there are taxis available from the station if you'd prefer not to wait.

By Private Vehicle:

The musuem is approximately a ten minute drive from the Hokuriku Expressway's Nagaoka Interchange. There is free on-site parking available for up to 165 vehicles.

I'm an expat who has lived abroad for almost a decade, including 7 years in Japan. I've also visited 44 of 47 prefectures and hope to get to the last three someday! I'm particularly fond of exploring off the beaten path destinations, gardens, and tea houses, and have a real interest in Japan's growing vegan scene.
