The Mount Fuji Fireworks will initially take place in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, with the event intended to visit other cities and towns in Shizuoka and Yamanashi in years to come.

Part of the event's purpose is to highlight the cultural importance of fireworks festivals in Japan, particularly in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic where large numbers of such festivals were cancelled. The event also claims to be the highest altitude fireworks festival in the country.
