For some reason, there's a whole lot of enjoyable public art and design in Shizuoka, and this extends also to the suburbs. Walking around the streets of Shimizu one winter's day, I found a number of interesting statues, often connected to the town in one way or another. There are nautical statues reflecting its port, and footballers in front of the station representing J-League team Shimizu S-Pulse. And with the other statues, part of the fun is in flexing your imagination as to just what they're up to!
