I met a lot of families along the way

Splashes of color everywhere!

Hiking along the road. Every now and then there are bus stops and restrooms and place to sit for a while

Sometimes, planked paths snake through the fields

Another splash of color along the bank of a little stream

Incredibly fresh

This wide path cut through a wet, silent forest

Even views from the road are beautiful. Here, there are mountains and fields to the right

Most of us hope for a full week of sunshine when we are out traveling. But it doesn't alway happen that way. I recently spent a weekend in Nikko and it rained almost the whole time. But guess what? It was beautful! In this short series, I'd like to share the beauty of Nikko with you--in the rain. This story focuses on hiking in the rain: Senjogahara, Odajirogahara, Yuno-ko Lake and other places. The people I met along the way seemed to be happy to be there. It was a totally refreshing experience.
