The Lustrous Colors of Art Deco 2021

A special exhibition at the Tokyo Teien Art Museum

Venue: Teien Art Museum When: Apr 24th - Jun 13th 2021

A special exhibition taking place at Tokyo's Teien Art Museum will explore the architecture of the museum building, which was constructed in 1933 and served as the Former Residence of Prince Asaka. Previously, this annual event has focused on the history, interior decoration, and building materials of the museum, but this year will look specifically at the colors used in the art deco-styled design.

After staying in France, Prince Asaka and Princess Nobuko were reportedly fascinated by all things art deco and incorporated it into their own home, with elements like white plaster ceilings, black lacquered columns, and metallic fittings all playing a role.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 1000 yen.

Getting there

The Teien Art Museum is located 7 minutes on foot from Meguro Station on the JR Yamanote Line (East Exit) and the Tokyu Meguro Line (Main Gate). Alternatively, it's a 6 minute walk from Shirokanedai Station (Exit 1) on the Toei Mita Line.

For those who plan to drive, there is paid parking available on the museum grounds. It is charged at a rate of ¥800 for one hour, and then an additional ¥400 per half hour thereafter.
