Temple twenty six in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is also known as Vajra Peak Temple. The carving of the main deity, Yakushi Nyorai, is said to be so life like, that it walked to the alter by itself after being carved. At one time Kongochoji was the main temple for praying for the peace and safety of the nation. The surrounding coast was once quite famous for its whaling, so within the temple grounds there is a museum displaying whaling tools. To get there, catch a Kan-noura bound bus from Nahari station and get off at Motohashi bus stop. From there it’s about a 50 minute walk.
