Cosquerade at Fushigi-ichi

Yokogawa festival features elaborate costumes

Yokogawa is an interesting town on the outskirts of Hiroshima city. A visit to this classic old-style town at any time of year is interesting. Especially if you are able to go during the Fushigi-ichi neighborhood festival in April, when you can also enjoy seeing local Cosplay- the performance art of wearing elaborate costumes to represent a favorite anime character. Many of these Cosplay performers spend countless hours in preparing the perfect look, and are happy to pose for photographs if you ask first. Whether you know any of the characters they represent or not, it is easy to appreciate their dedication and creativity.

I've been living in Hiroshima since the mid 90's & still discovering new things to enjoy. I'm a big fan of both the old "wabi sabi" as well as modern and new designs, Japan offers both of these type of places to explore and enjoy. Even after many years here, I am still discovering surprising, fantastic and wacky things about this strange and wonderful land. I hope you enjoy your adventures around Japan- feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about traveling with kids, vegetarian dining or anything specific to Hiroshima.

I bet it's a fun to dress in costumes and feel like a character. ;)

Difficult not to do a double take when you see anime characters in ordinary setting.
