You know that autumn has finally come to Yokohama when the leaves on the Ginko trees of Nihon Odori Street turn yellow. These leaves create a yellow tunnel and help create a beautiful palette of colors: golden under a blue sky, lemon yellow in the rain, and yellowish green lit by street lamps at night. In 1870, the Japanese government constructed this beautiful street to connect Yokohama Park and Zo-no-hana Pier (today’s Zo-no-hana Park). This street runs through the government buildings district and includes many classy buildings: the Prefectural Office (commonly called ‘King’), the Yokohama Custom House (‘Queen’), the Port Memorial Public Hall (‘Jack’), the Yokohama District Court, and the Yokohama Archives of History. And a few nice coffee houses also line the street. Mainly office workers walk along the street on weekdays, while on weekends, dog lovers and neighbors spend time drinking coffee, chatting and catching up.
