In winter the pond around the popular tourist destination Kinkaku-ji sometimes freezes at sub-zero temperatures. Tourists and locals gather in numbers to enjoy the beauty and the scene is a photographers delight. Kids can be seen making small snow balls and hurling it towards the lake, which is evident in the photographs. It's a rare view; keep looking for news announcements and snowfall predictions in the Kyoto area to catch a glimpse of the frozen pond.

Great pictures! One of Kyoto's famous tourist attractions, you rarely see pictures of Kinkakuji with a white background.

These are stunning! I've been to Kyoto twice in the winter but never managed to be there when it snowed. Now I know what I'm missing!

Very unique! The Kinkakuji like I have never seen it, not even in any guides. I guess Kyoto is worth a visit all times of the year :)
