The 72nd Annual Exhibition of Shoso-in Treasures 2020

Explore various pieces from Tōdai-ji's treasure house

Venue: Nara National Museum When: Oct 24th - Nov 9th 2020

The Shoso-in is the treasure house of Nara's Todai-ji Temple, and the 72nd Annual Exhibition of Shoso-in Treasures exhibition at the Nara National Museum allows visitors to enjoy some of these pieces up close. The treasures on display will include the likes of musical instruments, furnishings and decorations, dyed textiles, documents, and sutras.

There will also be a number of medicines on display, specifically those dedicated to Todaiji Temple from Empress Komyō to share with the sick in the Nara period.

Adult admission to the special exhibition is priced at 2,000 yen.

Getting there

The Nara National Museum is located approximately ten minutes on foot from the Kintetsu Nara Station, served by the Kintetsu Railway's Nara Line.

For those who plan to drive, take the Tenri Interchange from the Nishi–Meihan Expressway. Head onto Route 169, and travel north for about 15 minutes. The museum doesn't have a dedicated parking lot, but there are a number of paid parking lots in the surrounding streets.

When ticket costs about 2000 yen, I always hesitate. :)

Maybe it's because of covid-19. Before there was no need of reservation, but now it's almost in every popular museum of Japan. For a traveller like me the reservation for a certain day and time is difficult as mostly I have to search for places.
