All Aboard the One Piece Shinkansen

A new adventure starts in Spring 2025

For over 25 years, One Piece has captured the imaginations of fans worldwide with its exciting adventures and unforgettable characters. Since its debut in 1997, Eiichiro Oda’s epic tale of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew has become one of the most popular and long-running manga series in history.

This year, One Piece fans visiting Japan will have a new way to experience the world of the Straw Hat Pirates—with the launch of the One Piece Shinkansen coming in Spring 2025. This special collaboration celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sanyo Shinkansen and adds to the buzz around the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo.

The One Piece Shinkansen will feature three trains rolled out in succession—each set to have different designs—which will travel between Shin-Osaka and Hakata stations. The first train, called “Setouchi Blue,” takes inspiration from the sea and features colorful artwork of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates on the exterior. Once onboard, fans will find more One Piece designs that bring the world of the anime to life during the ride.

If you’re a One Piece fan, or even just curious to see what all the hype is about, the One Piece Shinkansen is set to offer a ride packed with excitement and adventure. It also provides a unique way to head to Hakata (Fukuoka), which was named by Expedia as a top "detour destination" from Tokyo for 2025.

For more details and information about the exact commencement date of the shinkansen closer to the spring season, be sure to check out the official website: One Piece Shinkansen.

Getting there

Shin-Osaka Station is the starting point of the Sanyo Shinkansen line, which is a continuation of the Tokaido Shinkansen line operating from Tokyo. The travel time from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station is approximately two hours and 30 minutes.
