Expo 2025 in Osaka-Kansai opened with a major milestone as Red Cliff Co., Ltd. set a new Guinness World Record™ for the largest aerial display of a tree using drones. On April 13th, the first day of the Expo, 2500 drones took to the sky to create a large-scale animated display. Of these, 1,749 formed a tree-shaped image, earning official recognition from Guinness World Records™.

Red Cliff, a Tokyo-based company and platinum partner of the Expo, is behind the daily drone show titled “One World, One Planet.” The performance combines coordinated drone movement with sound and lighting, and will run every evening for the entire 184-day Expo period.
Opening day featured a special version of the show, with drones equipped with flash modules that emit light significantly brighter than standard LEDs. Despite poor weather, the show proceeded as planned and drew positive reactions both at the venue and on social media.
In addition to the record set on opening night, Red Cliff and the Expo Association are working toward another Guinness World Record™ for the most drones flown in a single year. This will be based on the cumulative number of drones used throughout the Expo period, including setup and rehearsals.

The drone show takes place at the “Sea of Connections” venue after sunset. It is free to view for Expo visitors with valid admission tickets and does not require a reservation.
With daily shows continuing until the closing day on October 13th, the drone project is one of the key visual features of Expo 2025, linking the event’s theme of global connection with ongoing technological innovation.
