A Road Trip to Shiroishi

In and around Shichikashuku Town

Nametsu Ootaki Fall is a hidden gem in Shichikashuku.

This is one of the scenes while walking around the lake.

It's almost therapeutic looking at the water cascade down the rocks.

The view of Lake Choro here is just incredible.

The water certainly looks inviting!

A leisurely way to spend a summer afternoon is paddling a canoe on the lake.

Shiroishi Castle is a another beautiful castle in the Tohoku region. Though small, during hanami season it's spectacular as the grounds are lined with sakura trees.

The streetlights in Shiroishi are quite interesting.

This is a statue that you'll see on the Ecoline to Mount Zao. I know, you're thinking "Dragonball Z", aren't you???

This is what remains of a now abandoned Tenshi Land which was a  hot spring, and play land for children.

It's rather spooky with all the stuffed toys inside the building. It's as if one day everybody just disappeared.

Breath-taking, isn't it?

You'll see fields of these wildflowers around Lake Choro.

With a background of the majestic snow-capped peaks of Mount Zao, Shiroishi is another hidden gem in Tohoku. It makes for a splendid road trip as you can also drive around the beautiful landscapes of Shichikashuku Town.

Shiroishi exists amidst a rich natural environment and watching the greenery whizz by as you drive along makes you feel as if you're going on an adventure. If you're lucky, you'll see the monkeys near the roads. With the natural escapes and historical sites, I highly recommend Shiroishi as a road trip destination. It is easily accessed from Sendai Station and definitely worth a visit.
