If you're in Izu-Taga near Atami on the Izu Peninsula, possibly to visit the Ikeda Masuo Art Museum, it's worth stopping off on the walk up the hill to see Kotoku-ji. A small but pleasant Buddhist temple, it has a peaceful setting by a stream, there are a few interesting statues and features in its grounds and, though this was difficult to capture in photographs, the main hall is built on chunky stilts above a shallow artificial pond.
