If you're in the suburbs of Shizuoka city to enjoy the traditional ukiyo-e (woodblock prints) at the Tokaido Hiroshige Art Museum, then while you're there it's also worth popping up behind the museum to take a look at Daihoji. It's a small but charming Buddhist temple, with a small but diverse population of interesting statues in the well-tended grounds, and a relaxed atmosphere that will set your mind at ease before or after you see the museum.

It seems not as crowded as touristic places, right?
This is true, I often visit these little neighbourhood temples, and they're not busy at all.

The great brand sites of Japan need to be seen, for sure, but you're not going to miss out on all that much by visiting smaller and less crowded temples and shrines. And they are - literally - everywhere

I definitely prefer that! I know Kyoto is great, but I was SO tired there from a crowd anywhere. Same in Asakusa - why?! : )
